Liam Wylie is a Toronto based artist whose sculptural work explores the tenuous boundary between myth and science and how these two supposedly antithetical factions interact and often overlap with one another. In From Dreams I Proceed to Facts, Wylie focuses this interplay around Edwin A. Abbott’s fable Flatland adopting its simple streamlined visual appeal.

Flatland chronicles the life of a square whose precise and orderly (and two dimensional) world is turned upside down upon the unexpected appearance of a sphere. After interrogating this three dimensional outlander, the square is forced to re-define his notions of fact and fiction. It is this epiphany which inspired the artist.
