Local Call Opening Reception

Opening Reception: Friday,  March 9, 6–9 p.m.

On Friday, March 9, 2012, the Telephone Booth Gallery held the opening reception for Local Call: Junction Neighbours Group Exhibition.  Local Call features established artists that live or work in The Junction/Junction Triangle neighbourhoods of Toronto.  The idea for this neighbourly exhibition stemmed from a conversation with Tim Whiten and David McClyment, who both happened to pop into the gallery one Saturday afternoon.

Gallery Director Sharlene Rankin is thrilled with the exhibition, which includes several brand new, never-before-exhibited works by Shelley Adler, Katherine Knight, David Liss, Dyan Marie, David McClyment and Laura Moore.  The artwork in the exhibition is quite diverse—installation, painting, watercolours, drawing, sculpture, mixed-media/sound works and photography.  The strength of the works and the diversity make for a satisfying gallery visit.

“To be able to work with artists that I have respected for many years has been very exciting.  It has also been a great opportunity for the artists to meet and get to know each other.  New synergies and opportunities for partnerships between the artists are emerging, which is fantastic.”

The opening was packed most of the evening with local residents, artists, new clients, friends and family enjoying the evening.  The noise level was high, making it hard to hear Marla Hlady’s “Mixers,” and at times it was difficult to even walk down the hall or visit the backroom gallery.

If you missed the reception, the exhibition continues until Saturday, March 31, 2012.
