With so much choices, with well over 1500 Canadian and international artists and photographers exhibiting at more than 200 exhibitions, it isn’t easy picking exhibits to see.
The current exhibition at Typology Projects, offers various artistic thoughts on not only the relationship between past and present, but between absence and presence; life and death.
The particular height of the plinths used to exhibit the work encourages practices of public voyeurism, desire to behold and scrutinize these precious objects
They demonstrate an interest in the cultural texts which surround us, and engage with appropriation and questions of authenticity. In both cases, cultural or textual material has been divorced from its original context and given a new meaning.
