I am pleased to be inviting you to preview a new body of work titled Shaping Up by Toronto-based artist PAUL WYSMYK.

PAUL’s pictures tend to be of domestic interiors featuring arrangements of furniture, plants or objects. Often the elements are deconstructed. For PAUL deconstruction is about a literal space puzzled back together to make a picture. He sees it as a metaphor for the creative process itself. He feels we generally make things by adding and subtracting bits that sometimes fit or at other times are out of proportion. Eventually something emerges that is possibly useful and attractive.

These stunning new works are appealing on many levels… graphically; for the colours that are bold and dynamic; and for the nod he gives the past in art history. I think there is an upbeat, nostalgic quality to the work that for me, makes these paintings very compelling and satisfying.
