Walking and drawing simultaneously along Toronto sidewalks, I create believable urban scenes built up of elements encountered separately over time and space. Gel pen and paper interact with humidity and rain, creating each drawing’s unique character. Later, graphite shading is added, and the paper is tinted with tea and wax.
This “walking drawing” technique developed spontaneously in 2006, uniting four interests: human beings, the urban environment, walking and drawing. Recent exhibitions include “Walking Drawings” at Loop Gallery, and “Drawing 2012” at the John B. Aird Gallery. My walking drawing practice was also featured on CBC Radio’s “Here and Now”.
