Archival Thoughts Reception

June 13 – June 24, 2012
Opening: June 14, 2012  7 – 10 p.m.
Gallery 1313

The reception for this group exhibition of photographers was well attended, and the works displayed the varied talents of these young fourth year students from the York undergrad program. Aidan O’Boyle’s Breast Plates with images on the centre of plates was a great example of how varied and diverse the works were.

Briar Murawski’s book, Antemortem, an archive of concentration camp images, was powerful.

Alex Clarke’s Issues With, a series of portraits of cats with art quotes from the likes of Jeff Wall , Damien Hirst and others, injected a little humour into the exhibit. It is great to see photography works outside of the usual slot of Scotia Bank Contact, and these students showed some strong works.

The artists exhibiting are Alex Clarke, Partrick Eugster, Andrey Osipov, Michelle Hodgson, Aaron Macfadyen, Ian Bethune, Jordan Browne, Briar Murawski, Aidan O’Boyle and Monika Wahba.

  1. I want to send my compliments to all the talented photographers who worked so hard to create this great show. Most really good photos take a lot of preparation, thought, skill, and hard work and all of this was conveyed through all these young talented artists. I mostly want to congratulate my talented daughter Artist Monika Wahba on the great job of planning and all the hard work on all the technical practice. There is definitely a great development of your eye and your mind Monika and how you produce your ideas of your photo shoots. Your artistic abilities will take you so far because you are putting a huge amount of work that goes into developing your talented and artistic skills and you are on the right track. I am so proud of you, congratulations again.
