KAI speaks about his new work, “The exhibition title, Love Is a Many-Splendored Thing, became apparent when I was working on this current body of work. It is the name of a Hollywood movie, filmed in 1955, which made location shots in Hong Kong where I was a high school student. It planted the seed of questioning the integration of the east and the west, which has become a significant theme in my work. Since I began using threads more than forty years ago, I have always considered this material performing the role of the East. As I was developing the pieces for this exhibition, I am happy to say am that I still in love with threads as a means of my personal expression, hence the title for the whole exhibition… Love Is a Many-Splendored Thing indeed!”
